Knowledge and practical tips

Inspect the canvas before the artwork

Width and height define the default display size; viewBox defines internal coordinates. Mismatched proportions or shapes outside the canvas can cause padding, clipping or alignment differences. Fit the full image before zooming into details.

Transparency is different from white artwork

Checkerboard, white and dark modes change only the preview background. Persistent white areas are usually actual shapes or fills. Inspect and clean them in the SVG editor, then return to the viewer.

Inspect code to identify actual vector paths

SVG can contain paths, shapes, text and images. Wrapping a bitmap does not create editable outlines. This tool shows a sanitized static preview, so scripting, animation and external resources may differ from the source application.

How it works

  1. Select a local SVG file or open the example.
  2. Switch background and zoom to check edges and clear space.
  3. Inspect code and dimensions, then convert to PNG or edit.

Common questions

Do I need to upload my SVG?

No. The file is read and previewed in this browser, without sending it to the conversion server.

Why can the preview differ from other applications?

SVGs using external images, fonts, scripts or animation may look different. The tool previews a sanitized static version; keep your original.

How does viewBox differ from width and height?

ViewBox defines internal coordinates; width and height define the display size. The same viewBox scales to different sizes. When proportions differ, preserveAspectRatio determines alignment and spacing.

Why can an SVG look blank?

Switch backgrounds to check for white or transparent artwork, then verify that viewBox contains the paths. Removed external dependencies can also leave content missing; export a self-contained static file from the source application.

Does an SVG extension guarantee vector artwork?

No. SVG can embed bitmaps. Inspect actual paths and shapes for scalable outlines or editing. Use the image-to-vector service to trace PNG or JPG sources.

Does the viewer change the original file?

No. The original and static preview are separate. Download original file saves your selected source. Tool handoffs use the current static SVG; save edits and conversions as new files.
