Knowledge and practical tips

Distinguish vectors from bitmap dependencies

Supported paths, shapes and styles are passed to the vector PDF exporter. Not every SVG feature has an equivalent. Check fonts, filters, clipping and complex transparency in the receiving PDF application.

The PDF page follows the SVG canvas

The exporter creates one PDF page from the SVG canvas, mapping user units at 96 dpi to PDF points. Oversized canvases scale to page limits. Preserved proportions do not replace physical-size checks for printing.

Inspect the exported document

Open the generated file directly in the PDF viewer to check bounds, colors and orientation. Export a page to PNG when needed. Keep the original SVG for future recoloring and path changes.

How it works

  1. Select an SVG and inspect its canvas and shapes.
  2. Download PDF to generate the document in your browser.
  3. Check fonts, dimensions and appearance in the receiving application.

Common questions

Does SVG to PDF flatten everything into a bitmap?

Supported paths and shapes become vector PDF content. Embedded bitmaps remain bitmaps; check complex filters, fonts and external resources in the output.

How is the PDF page size determined?

The page follows SVG canvas proportions, with user units mapped at 96 dpi. Oversized canvases are scaled to PDF limits; verify physical dimensions before printing.

How many PDF pages does one SVG produce?

One SVG canvas produces one PDF page. The tool does not split it into pages or merge multiple SVG files.

Is the exported PDF automatically print-ready?

Verify dimensions, fonts, colors and production requirements. The tool does not automatically convert CMYK, add bleed or produce PDF/X-compliant output. Use professional preflight where required.

Why might PDF differ from the browser SVG preview?

Browser SVG and PDF export use different rendering paths. Filters, fonts, text layout and style inheritance can differ. Inspect the actual exported file in its target application.

Can PDF be larger than SVG?

Yes. Document structure, fonts and graphics encoding differ. Size alone does not establish quality or editability. Keep SVG for web graphics and choose PDF for document requirements.
