Are vector images clear at all sizes? Physical size and detail limitations
Vector paths can be rendered to scale, but there are still size restrictions on pattern details and production equipment. Zooming in will not automatically add information to the original image, and zooming out may make the text, inner holes, and thin lines unreadable or incomprehensible.
Determine the problem and applicable conditions first
A complex logo designed for a large poster is directly reduced to the size of a chest logo. The path still exists, but the vision may be stuck. SVGs containing bitmaps, filters, or special effects have the additional restriction that all objects cannot be treated as pure geometric outlines.
Process and check in order
- Determine the actual finished product width, height and viewing distance.
- Check the minimum text, line width and hollow space according to the actual size.
- Confirm with the producer whether a small-size simplified version is needed.
Check the finished result
Don’t only evaluate small products with the screen zoomed to 200%. Print other size references or make samples to check whether the key text can be recognized, and then determine the final delivery draft and applicable size range.
SVG format basis and reference materials
SVG can contain both vector shapes, images, and text. Therefore, a file name ending in .svg does not alone prove that the original image has been converted to an editable path.W3C SVG 2 Specification: SVG Graphics Objectdescribes these object types.
