Design and Prepress

What color information should be confirmed before RGB patterns are used for printing?

Web pages commonly use RGB displays, while printing processes may require CMYK, spot colors, or device configurations. Conversion to SVG does not automatically complete correct production color conversion and should be handled and proofed by the recipient in accordance with output conditions.

Determine the problem and applicable conditions first

Highly saturated colors on the screen may not be reproduced on paper or fabric. RGB and CMYK values cannot simply correspond one to one. Materials, inks, configurations and lighting also affect the look and feel. Merely saving the file as a PDF does not constitute color acceptance.

Process and check in order

  1. Ask the producer for the color space, configuration and spot color instructions required.
  2. Provides original color values, reference samples and important brand color requirements.
  3. The person responsible for pre-press completes the conversion and submits samples for confirmation.

Check the finished result

Do not blindly fix CMYK values in unverified web tools. When delivering, indicate whether color conversion has been performed and retain the RGB master to avoid color and version confusion caused by multiple round-trip conversions.

SVG format basis and reference materials

SVG can contain both vector shapes, images, and text. Therefore, a file name ending in .svg does not alone prove that the original image has been converted to an editable path.W3C SVG 2 Specification: SVG Graphics Objectdescribes these object types.
