SVG width, height and display size: why it looks large after importing

Written and maintained by:Sweet Tomato E-commerce Technology Co., Ltd. Updated

SVG can contain both internal coordinate ranges and external display width and height. The import software interprets units and artboards differently, which may make the same file look different in size; check the size and proportion first, and then determine whether the path is wrong.

Determine the problem and applicable conditions first

The width and height are written in pixels, millimeters or percentages. The usage environment may give different display effects. Taking 1000 user coordinate units directly as 1000 mm will lead to serious deviations in the delivered dimensions. Production documents need to clarify physical dimensions.

Process and check in order

  1. Record the width, height, and units required by the receiver.
  2. View the actual size of the artboard and selected subject in the target software.
  3. Scale proportionally to the target value, export the copy and re-import for verification.

Check the finished result

Size changes may affect thin lines and edge clipping, especially for graphics with strokes. The values measured in the receiving software and the confirmation sample shall prevail. Do not rely solely on the visual size in the browser tab.

SVG format basis and reference materials

SVG can contain both vector shapes, images, and text. Therefore, a file name ending in .svg does not alone prove that the original image has been converted to an editable path.W3C SVG 2 Specification: SVG Graphics Objectdescribes these object types.
