What is the viewBox of SVG? Coordinate range and canvas size
viewBox defines the coordinate range used internally by SVG, usually consisting of a starting point, width and height. It is not the same indicator as document pixels and printing resolution. A larger value does not mean a clearer image.
Determine the problem and applicable conditions first
For example, a graphic with viewBox="0 0 100 100" can be rendered in different display sizes. There is a mapping between the actual canvas width and height and internal coordinates; modifying the viewBox without checking the subject range may result in margin, cropping, or scaling changes.
Process and check in order
- Check the viewBox, width and height of the SVG root element.
- Adjust the canvas or object boundaries on the copy without directly overwriting the original file.
- Shown in narrow and wide containers, check proportions and margins.
Check the finished result
Consider strokes, shadows, and decoration beyond coordinates when cropping the canvas. If the subject disappears due to a viewBox error, the original coordinate range should be restored and then adjusted without re-uploading the image for conversion.
SVG format basis and reference materials
SVG can contain both vector shapes, images, and text. Therefore, a file name ending in .svg does not alone prove that the original image has been converted to an editable path.W3C SVG 2 Specification: SVG Graphics Objectdescribes these object types.
