Thin lines disappear after converting to SVG: How to determine whether it can be repaired

Written and maintained by:Sweet Tomato E-commerce Technology Co., Ltd. Updated

First check whether the thin lines in the original image are already very shallow, very thin, or have been scaled and compressed. If information is missing during the input stage, automatic conversion cannot reliably complete it; priority should be given to using clearer materials or manually redrawing necessary lines.

Determine the problem and applicable conditions first

When the subject occupies only a small portion of the larger canvas, scaling before uploading will further reduce hairline pixels. Lines that are similar to the background color are also easy to merge with the background color. Sharpening the image until it becomes black may produce false edges and cannot be considered as restoring the original line drawing.

Process and check in order

  1. Check whether the thinnest line segment is continuous at original pixels.
  2. Cut off useless white space and retain higher quality subject input.
  3. After conversion, check the broken line position and make up the drawing in the design software if necessary.

Check the finished result

When used for printing or cutting, the actual minimum line width should also be checked. Barely visible lines on the screen do not mean that the device can be stably produced. The supplier needs to make a judgment based on the target size and material.

SVG format basis and reference materials

SVG can contain both vector shapes, images, and text. Therefore, a file name ending in .svg does not alone prove that the original image has been converted to an editable path.W3C SVG 2 Specification: SVG Graphics Objectdescribes these object types.
