How to check color blocks and color separations before using SVG for screen printing

Written and maintained by:Sweet Tomato E-commerce Technology Co., Ltd. Updated

First confirm the design color, substrate and format received by the producer, and then check the relationship between each color block, hollowing out and overprinting. The existence of a path in SVG does not mean that the screen color separation has been completed. The actual color version and process parameters should be confirmed by the producer.

Determine the problem and applicable conditions first

Translucency, gradients and fine textures cannot be directly treated as a small amount of solid color plates. Background, registration and actual ink effects on dark clothing also affect results, and screen color cannot be used as a substitute for swatch confirmation. Do not extrapolate production color numbers directly from color list numbers.

Process and check in order

  1. Provide actual finished product size and target fabric information.
  2. Check for individual color patches and unwanted noisy, translucent objects.
  3. Let the producer confirm the color separation draft and samples, and then lock the delivery version.

Check the finished result

Keep original design drafts and production drafts separate. Any trapping, edge expansion and background processing should be clearly indicated by who performed it to avoid repeated processing by both parties to change the outline; do not promise that the color will be exactly the same as the screen without proofing.

SVG format basis and reference materials

SVG can contain both vector shapes, images, and text. Therefore, a file name ending in .svg does not alone prove that the original image has been converted to an editable path.W3C SVG 2 Specification: SVG Graphics Objectdescribes these object types.
