Convert hand-drawn scanned manuscript to vector: How to deal with paper texture, tilt and brush strokes
First correct the scan tilt, cut off the edges of the paper, and then distinguish the brush strokes that need to be retained and the paper grain that should be cleaned. Brush stroke particles are also graphic information, and paths will be added after tracing. You cannot expect complete preservation and minimalist nodes at the same time.
Determine the problem and applicable conditions first
Paper manuscripts taken with mobile phones often have perspective distortion and local shadows, and the scans may also have creases. Reshooting or rescanning with even lighting is often more helpful than repeatedly sharpening on a low-quality image. Preserve creatively meaningful changes in thickness.
Process and check in order
- Correct perspective and tilt, check subject proportions.
- Adjust the brightness of the base paper, remove useless stains, and retain effective strokes.
- After conversion, compare the strokes, transitions and white space to decide whether to manually reconstruct it.
Check the finished result
Don’t mistake compressed noise as part of a hand-drawn style. If the final product is a brand logo, outline consistency may take precedence over paper texture; if it is an art print, you should confirm with the author which textures must be retained.
SVG format basis and reference materials
SVG can contain both vector shapes, images, and text. Therefore, a file name ending in .svg does not alone prove that the original image has been converted to an editable path.W3C SVG 2 Specification: SVG Graphics Objectdescribes these object types.
