Cutting draft of lettering film: why it looks like lines but cannot be cut directly

Written and maintained by:Sweet Tomato E-commerce Technology Co., Ltd. Updated

Cutting requires a usable path structure, not just a black outline on the screen. Check for closures, repeating lines, small isolated areas, and actual dimensions to determine whether the device requires contoured surfaces or other path forms.

Determine the problem and applicable conditions first

Tracing line drawings often produces closed outlines on both sides of the line, which may not be the expected center line. Too fine a structure will affect waste discharge, and independent inner holes may also be lost; these need to be judged based on the requirements of the material, tool and manufacturer.

Process and check in order

  1. Check the actual path and closure in the cutting software.
  2. Remove duplicate lines and fragments that are confirmed to be useless, and review letter bores.
  3. Use actual materials to test-cut samples before deciding whether to adjust the details.

Check the finished result

No minimum line width is available for all materials. The producer should accept materials and equipment; automatically vectorized files still need to be processed and inspected, and cannot be directly mass-produced based on the SVG suffix alone.

SVG format basis and reference materials

SVG can contain both vector shapes, images, and text. Therefore, a file name ending in .svg does not alone prove that the original image has been converted to an editable path.W3C SVG 2 Specification: SVG Graphics Objectdescribes these object types.
