What is the difference between image vectorization and high-definition enlargement?
High-definition enlargement increases the pixels of bitmap output, while vectorization traces image outlines and color blocks into paths. Neither guarantees recovery of information that didn't exist originally, and the choice depends on whether you want a photo look or editable graphics.
Determine the problem and applicable conditions first
Portraits, hair and soft shadows focus more on continuous tones, and enlarging and retouching may be more suitable for the purpose. Flat badges and color block patterns are better suited for pathing. You can also add fictitious edges by using AI to zoom in first, and tracing will fix these details together.
Process and check in order
- List final requirements: large photos, color-changing patterns, or cut outlines.
- Check whether the details of the original image are real and discernible, and do not regard the newly added texture as the original.
- Select the appropriate tool for processing and compare it with the unprocessed original image.
Check the finished result
If the vector image does not appear pixelated after being enlarged, it does not mean that the content is more faithful. Important trademarks and fine characters are given priority in requesting source files; for outlines that must be accurate, manual reconstruction is sometimes more controllable than continuous automatic processing.
SVG format basis and reference materials
SVG can contain both vector shapes, images, and text. Therefore, a file name ending in .svg does not alone prove that the original image has been converted to an editable path.W3C SVG 2 Specification: SVG Graphics Objectdescribes these object types.
