Editing and troubleshooting

There are many similar colors in the SVG color list: should they be merged or retained?

Approximate colors may come from gradients, edge antialiasing, or compressed noise. First determine which layers need to be retained and which ones are just noise, and then decide to unify the colors in the design software. You cannot delete them one by one at will.

Determine the problem and applicable conditions first

Brand solid color patterns usually want more clear colors, while realistic illustrations may rely on subtle color differences. Deleting a color removes the corresponding shape, while unifying the color requires modifying the fill; the two operations produce completely different results.

Process and check in order

  1. Determine the effect of color difference between the original image and the target size.
  2. Highlight suspected noise and confirm the involved areas.
  3. When unification is required, modify the colors or merge the color swatches in professional software and keep the originals for comparison.

Check the finished result

Do not directly regard a large number of similar colors as the number of printing spot colors. Producing color separations also requires consideration of overlays, base colors, and craftsmanship; use clear color swatches to communicate with samples to avoid delivering based solely on browser color blocks.

SVG format basis and reference materials

SVG can contain both vector shapes, images, and text. Therefore, a file name ending in .svg does not alone prove that the original image has been converted to an editable path.W3C SVG 2 Specification: SVG Graphics Objectdescribes these object types.
