Can SVG be used directly for embroidery? The difference between pattern and stitch files
SVG describes graphics, and the embroidery machine requires stitch data supported by the device. The vector diagram can be used as a reference for pattern making, but professional embroidery pattern making is still required to determine the stitching method, density, sequence and compensation, and the suffix cannot be changed instead.
Determine the problem and applicable conditions first
Fine lines, small letters, gradients and fragments can be difficult to reproduce in embroidery. For the same pattern, the pattern making requirements may also be different after the fabric, size and wire material are changed. Clean paths facilitate communication but do not automatically generate appropriate stitches.
Process and check in order
- Provide target sizes, fabrics and clear artwork to pattern maker.
- Highlight text that must be retained and details that can be simplified.
- The corresponding stitch format is generated by the pattern maker and confirmed with the embroidery sample.
Check the finished result
The screen preview cannot fully reflect the pulling, needle filling and wire effects. Keep records of vector masters and approved embroidery patterns. Important word marks must be checked word for word. Do not promise to shrink the embroidery arbitrarily just because the graphics are scalable.
SVG format basis and reference materials
SVG can contain both vector shapes, images, and text. Therefore, a file name ending in .svg does not alone prove that the original image has been converted to an editable path.W3C SVG 2 Specification: SVG Graphics Objectdescribes these object types.
