Export PNG from SVG: How to choose pixel dimensions
PNG is a bitmap. When exporting, the pixel size must be selected according to the final display or printing purpose. Save the SVG master and export to PNG on demand to avoid repeated upscaling of low-resolution PNGs.
Determine the problem and applicable conditions first
SVG paths render to target dimensions, but exported PNGs have fixed pixels. Web display focuses on actual CSS size and device pixel density, while printing requires the recipient to provide physical size and resolution requirements. The two cannot be mixed.
Process and check in order
- Confirm end use and required aspect ratio.
- Select PNG and the appropriate size in the editor's export menu.
- Check the pixel size of the file after downloading and check the thin lines under the actual size.
Check the finished result
For example, if a web page requires a logo with a width of 300 pixels, you can consider exporting it with a higher pixel according to the device resolution requirements, but bigger is not always better. Keeping the vector version reduces duplication of conversions; a clear PNG does not mean it contains editable paths.
SVG format basis and reference materials
SVG can contain both vector shapes, images, and text. Therefore, a file name ending in .svg does not alone prove that the original image has been converted to an editable path.W3C SVG 2 Specification: SVG Graphics Objectdescribes these object types.
