How to choose the original image suitable for converting to vector: five check points
Priority is given to pictures with complete subjects, clear edges, clear color blocks, and without repeated compression. The more complex the background and the denser the small text, the more subsequent cleaning and checking is usually required; large size is no substitute for true detail.
Determine the problem and applicable conditions first
Clean pattern on thumbnail, may contain compressed squares and blurred edges when enlarged. Check the parts you need for your intended use first, rather than just looking for the version with the highest pixel count. If you already have SVG or AI source files, you should usually use the source files directly.
Process and check in order
- Check whether the subject is cropped, blocked or watermarked.
- Zoom in to inspect sharp corners, holes, thin lines and minimal text.
- Confirm that you have legal rights to use, and then make a copy with a transparent or simple background.
Check the finished result
After the image selection is completed, record the source and purpose, and keep the unprocessed original. If the font is wrong after conversion, first check whether the original image information is sufficient. Do not continuously submit the same thumbnail image in the hope of stable recovery.
SVG format basis and reference materials
SVG can contain both vector shapes, images, and text. Therefore, a file name ending in .svg does not alone prove that the original image has been converted to an editable path.W3C SVG 2 Specification: SVG Graphics Objectdescribes these object types.
