Transparent PNG has white edges: how to check before converting to vector
Place the transparent PNG on a dark background and check. If a light halo appears on the edge, it may contain white semi-transparent pixels. Vectorization traces the visible edges, possibly preserving or enhancing the ring of noise.
Determine the problem and applicable conditions first
Edges that are invisible on a white canvas will be obvious on dark clothing or web page backgrounds. First, distinguish whether the subject originally has a stroke or is a cutout residue; do not directly erase all the light details in order to eliminate the white edges.
Process and check in order
- View the original image with white, black and target background colors respectively.
- Repair the mask or edge pollution in the original image software and keep a backup.
- Re-export transparent PNG, check body outline before converting.
Check the finished result
After processing, check whether fine hair, eye whites and light-colored decorations have been accidentally deleted. If the purpose is just for photo cutout, you may not need to convert the path; if it is used for solid color patterns, the edges should look consistent on the final substrate.
SVG format basis and reference materials
SVG can contain both vector shapes, images, and text. Therefore, a file name ending in .svg does not alone prove that the original image has been converted to an editable path.W3C SVG 2 Specification: SVG Graphics Objectdescribes these object types.
