Should I use img or inline SVG for web pages? The trade-off between style and isolation
Using img to reference SVG is suitable for ordinary independent pictures, and inline SVG facilitates page style control of internal graphics. The selection method depends on whether path-by-path interaction, color change, and maintenance are required. You cannot just compare the length of the writing method.
Determine the problem and applicable conditions first
When used as an image reference, the page CSS usually cannot directly select the internal path of the file; after inlining, pay attention to class name, ID and style conflicts. Putting multiple complex SVGs directly into the page will also increase the DOM size.
Process and check in order
- For general content images, consider img first and provide appropriate alternative text.
- Evaluate inline structures and unique IDs when internal interaction is required.
- Test the color, cropping and loading effects in the actual style environment.
Check the finished result
User-uploaded SVG should not be directly injected into the page without verification. Remove unwanted active content before publishing and comply with site security policies. Visually usable does not equate to suitable for arbitrary inline operation.
SVG format basis and reference materials
SVG can contain both vector shapes, images, and text. Therefore, a file name ending in .svg does not alone prove that the original image has been converted to an editable path.W3C SVG 2 Specification: SVG Graphics Objectdescribes these object types.
