Missing images when opening SVG offline: external image and font dependency check

Written and maintained by:Sweet Tomato E-commerce Technology Co., Ltd. Updated

SVG may reference external images, styles or fonts. It is normal when connected to the Internet but does not mean that it is complete offline. Check dependencies before delivery, rationally organize the resources that are allowed to be packaged, or convert to a more self-contained delivery solution after confirmation.

Determine the problem and applicable conditions first

Invalid external address, permission changes or path changes may cause images to be missing. Embedding a bitmap reduces some dependencies, but increases file size and does not turn the bitmap into a path. Converting font to outline changes the editability of text.

Process and check in order

  1. Check the source of image, style and text objects.
  2. Organize dependencies according to authorization requirements to avoid delivering local absolute paths.
  3. Open delivery copy verification on a disconnected network or another test device.

Check the finished result

Do not leave private links, access tokens, or local paths in public files. The delivery list should indicate whether it contains bitmap and font dependencies, and provide reference previews of important items to help the recipient find missing content.

SVG format basis and reference materials

SVG can contain both vector shapes, images, and text. Therefore, a file name ending in .svg does not alone prove that the original image has been converted to an editable path.W3C SVG 2 Specification: SVG Graphics Objectdescribes these object types.
